Of Counsel at The Law Office of Rochelle S. Berliner
A native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, I graduated from St. John’s University School of Law. My focus in law school was in criminal law. I served as President of the Criminal Law Society during law school and interned with the Innocence Project where I helped prisoners gain access to post-conviction DNA testing for the purpose of exoneration. Since my admission to the NYS Bar, I have practiced primarily in criminal defense, representing defendants in various stages of the criminal justice system. Because many clients may also face immigration issues, I also have experience in immigration law, which includes cases involving immigration consequences of criminal convictions and petitioning for asylum.
Regardless of the allegations, the strength of the case, or the actual guilt or innocence of a client, the accused are entitled to a fair process and protection from the potential abuse by the government.
Whether that means advocating for the best possible disposition during plea-bargaining, taking a case to trial, pushing to have a conviction vacated or re-evaluated, or pursuing a civil rights claim, I strive not only to be a voice for our clients, but also to help them navigate through the system so that they may make informed decisions.
In a former life, I was an artist and a business owner. I enjoy playing poker, pool and chess, and solving the Rubik’s Cube. I also did a brief stint in roller derby.
Rochelle Berliner grew up in Queens, NY. She started New York Law School in January 1989 and graduated in June 1991. Immediately after law school, she started working at the New York County District Attorney’s Office, where she stayed for approximately 14 years...
